For Thursday, January 24
We’ll do the normal sort of things that happen on the first day of the semester.  I’ll read through the role, try to learn to pronounce your names, and begin a conversation with you about the class, which is a new one for me as well as a new one for you.
I will show a short clip of an outdoor concert, asking you to imagine yourselves being there.  What would the experience be like?
I’ll pass out a short survey of some of the musicians and composers we’ll run across in the weeks to come, seeing whom you’ve heard of, and whom you’ve not, and your estimate of how familiar you are with their work.

I may bring a big box of materials I’ve been collecting, just to give you an idea of the resources we’ll have to work with...more will be coming, I’m sure.
