Send them your heart so they'll know that someone cares
And their lives will be stronger and free
As God has shown us by turning stone to bread
So we all must lend a helping hand
When you're down and out, there seems no hope at all
But if you just believe there's no way we can fall
Well...well...well
Let's realize that a change can only come
When we stand together as one
We are the world, we are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day
So let's start giving
There's a choice we're making
We're saving our own lives
It's true we'll make a better day
Just you and me
Reflective Paper
Paper Due Monday, November 30
(The Monday we return from Thanksgiving Break)
Length: 5 pp. minimum.
(More, if you include pictures--I'll demonstrate how to do this in MS Word, if you need me to).
Instructions:
I'm going to try to keep these as free as I can. A reflective paper is supposed to center on your own thoughts, observations, and feelings. I want you to think about the role of music of the kinds we've been studying, songs of protest, the blues, the songs and texts from Songs of Work and Protest. and what we've covered, so far, in Singing Out. I want you also to use resources we've uncovered, both those you've found and the ones found by your classmates and myself.
Reflect upon the social role of music.
How does it work for individuals and for groups of people, in good times and bad?
If it has touched your life in any way, how has it done so? Can you think of songs which have had a special impact upon your life in any way?
If you could have been present at any event which one would that be?
Has any of this music encouraged you to try to make a difference in the world? If so, what?
These are just some prompts. you don't have to cover them all, or even most of them.
Regarding using resource contributions
You may use as many of your own as you wish.
You may use resources contributed by others as long as the total number is no larger than the number of your own you use.
Attribute the resource to the classmate who provided it. You can use links to the resource itself so it becomes accessible.
